The Magpul Hunter X-22 Takedown is the stock a lot of 10/22 Takedown owners wish came from the factory. It's a fully featured chassis built from reinforced polymer that drops right onto standard Ruger 10/22 Takedown .22 LR rifles with no gunsmithing. Pull your rifle out of the factory birch, drop the action into the Hunter X-22, and you've gone from a decent little plinker to something that fits you and shoots the way you want it to.
What sets this one apart is how much you can tune it to your body and your setup. The spacer system takes length of pull from 12.5 inches out to 14.5 inches in half-inch increments, so taller folks and broad-shouldered shooters get room to stretch out. It ships with a no-rise cheek piece for iron sights or the lowest cheek weld, and it accepts optional cheek riser kits that bump you up 0.25, 0.50, or 0.75 inches when you throw a scope on top. That combination is a big deal on a rimfire, since getting a repeatable cheek weld is half the accuracy battle.
The reversible barrel tray is the clever part. Flip it one way for a factory pencil-profile barrel, flip it the other and it clears heavy bull barrels up to .920 inches. There's an adjustable tensioning shim in the forend so you can dial in barrel preload, or you can free float it entirely if that's your thing. Guys running Volquartsen and other aftermarket barrels report they drop in without a fight.
Accessory and sling mounting is covered from every angle. You get M-LOK slots on the sides and bottom of the forend for rails, bipod adapters, QD mounts, and lights. There are left and right footman's loops at the rear, dimpled drill points for standard swivel studs, and push-button QD compatibility with optional sling mount kits. The non-slip rubber butt-pad keeps things planted in the shoulder, and the 60-degree grip angle feels natural whether you're plinking off a bench or working an NRL-22 stage. It's made in the USA, and it works with all capacities of factory Ruger 10/22 magazines.
