The factory Ruger 10/22 Takedown stock gets the job done, but it leaves a lot of comfort and adjustability on the table. The Magpul Hunter X-22 Takedown fixes that. It's a reinforced polymer chassis built specifically for the takedown model, and it bolts up with no gunsmithing. You get a proper 60-degree grip angle, a thicker forend that fills the hand better, and a non-slip rubber butt-pad that keeps the gun planted on your shoulder. Folks who've swapped over from the factory stock or a Hogue overmold tend to notice the jump in rigidity and ergonomics right away.
This is where the stock earns its keep. The included spacer system lets you set length of pull anywhere from 12.5 to 14.5 inches in half-inch increments, so taller and broad-shouldered folks aren't stuck hunched over a stubby stock. The comb height is adjustable too, and it accepts optional cheek riser kits that raise your cheek weld 0.25, 0.50, or 0.75 inches. That comes in handy when you throw a bigger scope or higher rings on top and need your eye lined up behind the glass.
A reversible barrel tray handles both the factory pencil-profile barrel and heavier bull barrels up to 0.920 inches in diameter. There's an adjustable tensioning shim in the forend if you want to set barrel preload, or you can free-float it instead. For hanging gear, you've got M-LOK slots on the sides and bottom of the forend, left and right footman's loops, a QD sling cup point, and dimpled drill points for optional swivel studs. It works with all capacities of factory Ruger 10/22 magazines, so nothing changes about how you feed it.

No gunsmithing needed. It's a true drop-in fit for standard Ruger 10/22 Takedown .22 LR rifles, so you can move your action over with basic hand tools. The only time you'd break out a drill is if you choose to add optional swivel studs at the dimpled drill points.
