It was originally designed for M14 carbine stock conversions, and it's meant for non-AR-15/M4 setups because the added height can interfere with the charging handle unless the collapsible stock is run fully extended. If you're building a bolt gun, a rimfire trainer, or another platform where charging handle clearance isn't a concern, it drops right in.
