By swapping the traditional all-steel frame for a hard-coat anodized aluminum frame, they shaved close to a full pound off the classic Desert Eagle's weight while keeping the carbon steel slide, barrel, and all the mechanical integrity intact. The gas-operated, rotating bolt action is what sets the Desert Eagle apart from every other semi-automatic pistol on the market. That system, combined with the integral muzzle brake built into the 5" fluted barrel, does a real job of managing felt recoil. The .357 Magnum chambering is actually a great choice for this platform. It gives you nine rounds in the magazine versus eight for the .44 Mag, the ammo is more accessible, and the gas system soaks up enough of the .357's snap that extended range sessions stay comfortable.
