Description

LWRC built its reputation on the Individual Carbine program, and the IC-MKII is where all that development finally comes together. This is the successor to the well-loved IC-A5, and the updates are the kind you notice at the range, not just on a spec sheet. The heart of the rifle is LWRC's patented short-stroke gas piston system, which vents hot gas at the block instead of dumping it back into the receiver. Your bolt carrier stays cooler and cleaner, lube lasts longer, and cleaning sessions get a lot shorter. The two-position gas block uses a new paddle-style adjustment tucked inside the rail, so flipping between suppressed and unsuppressed settings takes seconds through the handguard cutouts.

What Changed From the IC-A5 to the IC-MKII

The biggest news is the handguard. LWRC redesigned the Monoforge upper to make room for a longer free-float M-LOK handguard over the piston system, which means no more hunting for proprietary rail panels. Loosen two screws at the base and the whole handguard slides off for easy access to the gas system. The receivers also picked up machining cues from the REPR MKII line, so the rifle has a sharper, more sculpted look while staying every bit as stout. The lower is fully ambidextrous, with the bolt catch, mag release, and safety selector mirrored on both sides, plus an ambi charging handle up top.

Built Around a Spiral-Fluted Hammer Forged Barrel

The 16.1 inch cold hammer forged barrel wears LWRC's signature spiral fluting, which trims barrel weight by roughly twenty percent while adding rigidity and helping it shed heat during long strings. The NiCorr surface treatment outlasts traditional chrome lining, and the 1:7 twist stabilizes everything from light varmint loads to heavy match bullets. The nickel-boron coated one-piece bolt carrier wipes clean with a rag and keeps running when things get dirty.

This one comes dressed in Tungsten Grey Cerakote, with LWRC's compact adjustable stock, Ultra grip, Skirmish backup sights, and a 30-round Magpul PMAG in the box. Duty-grade reliability with genuine range-day comfort, and one of the nicest piston guns going.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the LWRC IC-MKII and the IC-A5?

The MKII keeps the same trusted two-way adjustable piston system but adds a longer free-float M-LOK handguard, so you're no longer tied to proprietary rail panels. The Monoforge upper was redesigned to fit the handguard over the piston, the gas adjustment moved to a paddle-style key accessed through the rail, and the receivers picked up styling from the REPR MKII line. It's the same reliability with better ergonomics and easier accessory mounting.

Is the IC-MKII a good choice for suppressed shooting?

It's one of the better factory setups for it. The two-position gas block lets you switch between suppressed and unsuppressed settings through the handguard openings in seconds, and the piston system keeps blowback gas out of the receiver, which makes suppressed shooting noticeably cleaner and more pleasant. The 1/2-28 threaded muzzle accepts most standard 5.56 muzzle devices and mounts.

How hard is the LWRC IC-MKII to clean and maintain?

Easier than most ARs, since the piston system keeps carbon fouling out of the bolt carrier group. The nickel-boron carrier usually wipes clean with a rag, and the handguard comes off by loosening two screws at the base if you want to get at the gas system. Most owners find they can run high round counts with just basic lubrication.

Does the IC-MKII shoot 1:7 twist well with lighter bullets?

Yes. The 1:7 twist is optimized for heavier 62 to 77 grain loads, but it handles common 55 grain range ammo just fine at practical distances. If you plan to run heavier match or defensive loads, this twist rate is exactly what you want.
