The Lee Challenger III 40th Anniversary Pack is one of the easier ways to get set up for loading .44 Special and .44 Magnum without piecing a kit together yourself. The heart of this kit is the O-frame design, which is the strongest and most popular press layout out there for good reason. It's got a larger than average 4-inch opening that gives you plenty of hand clearance when you're seating bullets or fishing cases in and out, and the all-steel linkage with a cast aluminum frame has the stroke and leverage to size the largest magnum cartridges without fuss. Lee reworked the lever on this generation too, giving it an ergonomic shape so you're not stooping down at the bottom of the stroke all day.
Priming happens right on the press with the Lee Lever Prime System, and it moves the priming position up front where you can actually see what you're doing. Swapping between small and large primer arms is a tool-free change. Spent primers drop straight through the ram and into a collection tube, so you're not chasing dead primers across the bench or caking grime onto the frame and ram.
The Breech Lock Quick Change system is the real time saver here. Dies thread into color-coded Smart Lock bushings, so once a die is set you can twist it in and out with a flick of the wrist and never touch your adjustment again. The .44 set includes a carbide full length sizing die, which lets you skip case lube entirely, along with a bullet seating die, a powder-thru expanding die, a universal shell holder, a powder dipper, and load data to get you started.
