The Leapers UTG LTELP28R packs a 120 lumen CREE LED flood and an adjustable red laser into one compact aluminum housing that clamps right onto a Picatinny rail. At just 2.4 inches long and around 2.4 ounces, it stays out of the way whether you run it on a carbine, a shotgun, or a railed handgun. Controls are ambidextrous textured push buttons, and the selector gives you three modes: direct push-button activation, pressure switch operation, and a full shut-off setting. That shut-off mode is the one to know about. It disconnects the unit so you don't drain the single CR2 lithium battery while it sits in storage, which is a common gotcha with any combo like this. A remote pressure switch comes in the box and plugs into a weatherproof port for hands-on-the-gun momentary activation.
Because the Picatinny bolt sits central to the unit, it works best on rails with slots positioned to keep the whole body supported. On some pistols with a short forward rail slot, the front of the light can overhang, so check your rail layout before mounting. It clamps onto any standard Picatinny rail, which covers most AR-style rifles, tactical shotguns, and pistols with an accessory rail. Since the mounting bolt sits in the center of the unit, check that your rail has slots positioned to support the full body. On some compact pistols with a short forward rail, the front of the light can hang off the edge, so it fits railed handguns best when the rail runs a little longer.
It can if you leave it in an active mode, which is why the shut-off setting matters. Flipping the selector to the shut-off position disconnects the unit completely and preserves the CR2 battery during storage. Get in the habit of using that mode between range trips and you'll get far better life out of a single cell.
