Anybody who has run their AR hard, especially suppressed or full-tilt semi-auto, has seen it happen: the trigger and hammer pins start creeping and rotating in the receiver, slowly egging out those pin holes. That is exactly the problem this KNS Precision Gen 2 Mod 2 pin set is built to kill. Two external stainless steel retainers bolt the trigger and hammer pins together so they physically cannot rotate or walk out, keeping everything in the fire control group locked in place shot after shot.
The pins themselves are hardened stainless steel finished in a durable black nitride, and this .154 diameter is the standard size for mil-spec AR-15 and M16 lowers. It also plays nice with AR-10/.308 and PCC/AR9 builds running the same fire control dimensions. A big part of the appeal is what it does beyond just holding pins in place: snugging the retainers takes the slop out of your trigger group, which is why a lot of folks pair these with drop-in triggers like CMC, Timney, and Rise Armament for a cleaner, tighter feel.
Installation is straightforward and needs no permanent modification to your rifle, so resale value stays intact. The kit ships with an installation tool that keeps tension on the trigger group during the swap, plus the hex wrenches and screws to finish the job. Torque matters here: KNS caps the screws at 11 in-lbs with 8 in-lbs recommended, and over-torquing can damage the sideplates, so a small torque driver is your friend.
This is the .154 version, meant for lowers with standard, in-spec pin holes. If your receiver has holes that have already loosened or enlarged from a lot of use, the .1555 oversize set is the one to grab instead. One thing worth knowing up front: the Mod 2 refers to the sideplate look, keeping that classic dogbone profile, and there's no strength difference between Gen 2 and Mod 2 plates. They do. These non-rotating pins are a favorite pairing for drop-in trigger packs from CMC, Timney, Rise Armament, and similar brands. Snugging the retainers also removes free play from the trigger group, which tightens up the feel. The one exception to note is that they are not compatible with Jewell match triggers.
