Kimber took their time getting into the double stack 1911 game, and the 2K11 shows why the wait was worth it. This is a full-size 9mm built on a stainless steel frame with a matte DLC-coated sub-frame, wearing a stainless slide with brush polished flats and custom front and rear serrations that grab your hand even with sweaty palms. The 5-inch fluted and ramped bull barrel gets a high polish Coyote PVD finish and 5R rifling on a 1:10 twist, and that gold-toned barrel peeking through the muzzle gives the whole gun a look that stands out in the case.
The GT match grade trigger breaks clean at 3 to 4 pounds, and the aluminum grip module features a tapered Stan Chen Customs magwell that funnels mags home fast while stabilizing them during cycling. Kimber also debuted their patent-pending tool-less guide rod on this platform, which makes takedown and cleaning a lot less of a chore than a traditional bushing setup. An external extractor keeps ejection consistent, the ambidextrous thumb safety works for lefties, and the railed dust cover accepts your light of choice. At 40 ounces or so, it soaks up 9mm recoil and gets the dot or front sight back on target in a hurry.
The slide is cut for red dots, and it ships with a TAG Precision FiberLok 2 green fiber optic front sight paired with an aluminum cover plate that has a built-in rear sight. So you get usable irons from day one, with C&H Precision adapter plates available for RMR, RMSc, DPP, ACRO, and 509T footprints when you're ready to mount glass.
Kimber includes three magazines in the box, one 17-rounder and two 20-rounders, so you're set for a full range session without buying extras.
