Kimber kept the internal architecture that defines their 1911 builds — an internal extractor, bushing barrel system, and mil-spec guide rod — and paired it with a GT Performance Trigger that breaks cleanly in the 4 to 5 pound range. The 5-inch stainless steel barrel has a deep crown and a 1:16 twist rate, and the KimPro Black finish on the slide is durable enough for hard use. The aluminum sub-frame keeps the whole package at 33 ounces unloaded, which is meaningfully lighter than a comparable all-steel double-stack without sacrificing any rigidity.
The grip module is carbon fiber and glass-filled matrix, and people who have spent time with it consistently say it locks in well without being abrasive. The stippling pattern is aggressive enough to give you real purchase through multiple fast strings, and the oversized magwell makes reloads cleaner and more intuitive under pressure. It's a true 1911 in the traditional sense — it uses a standard 1911 slide, internal extractor, bushing barrel, and single-action trigger. The double-stack capacity comes from a widened grip module and sub-frame rather than a completely different chassis like you'd see on a 2011 pattern. If you're used to running a 1911, the controls, feel, and manual of arms will be immediately familiar.
The slide is cut to an RMR footprint, and the gun ships with a C&H Precision mounting plate that's compatible with the Trijicon RMR, Holosun 407C/507C/508T, and several other popular optics using that same footprint. The included plate makes it easy to get a red dot mounted without hunting for additional hardware.
The aluminum sub-frame is the key here — most comparable double-stack 1911s with a steel frame run closer to 38 to 42 ounces empty. At 33 ounces, the DS Warrior LW is a noticeably lighter carry option while still giving you the steel slide and barrel for durability and consistent lock-up. It ships with a tritium front night sight installed from the factory. The rear sight is a fixed TAG cover plate — this is what allows the optics-ready setup to work cleanly. If you plan to run irons only, you can swap in a standard rear sight, but most people running this pistol are adding a red dot and using the tritium front as a co-witness backup.
