There are a lot of 5.56 cans on the market that look tough in photos, and then there are cans built to survive military torture testing. The KGM R556A2 falls firmly in the second camp. Its core design has run through more than 20 SOCOM SURG test cycles without failure, and it was engineered to digest M855A1 from barrels as short as 6.5 inches on full-auto schedules. For most of us, that translates to a suppressor you will never wear out, whether it lives on a duty rifle, a training gun that eats thousands of rounds a year, or your favorite range AR.
Construction is laser welded Inconel and stainless steel, then hardened further with an in-house gas-phase nitride treatment before getting a coat of heat and chemical resistant C-Series Cerakote in Flat Dark Earth. Just as important is what happens inside. The baffle and gas-flow design minimizes backpressure, so you get far less gas to the face and less over-gassing on short barrel setups where most suppressors turn your rifle into a smoke machine. Gas is redirected away from the bullet path to protect accuracy and keep point of impact shift minimal, and the shrouded end cap with integrated flash hider does a great job knocking down muzzle flash. Sound performance lands under 140 dB at the ear, even on 10.5 to 11.5 inch guns.
At 6.4 inches long, 1.75 inches in diameter, and right around 19 ounces, this is a full-size can with a full-size service life. The bore is EDM cut to accept 6mm cartridges, so it covers .223 Rem, 5.56 NATO, and 6mm ARC from a single suppressor, which is a nice bit of flexibility as 6mm chamberings keep gaining ground. The included 1/2×28 QD flash hider uses a tapered shoulder mount with secondary retention, so the can locks up tight and returns to zero when you take it on and off. Made in the USA by KGM, one of the highest volume suppressor manufacturers in the country and a veteran owned company out of Georgia.
It covers both. KGM cut the bore via EDM to accept 6mm projectiles, so the R556A2 runs .223 Rem, 5.56 NATO, and 6mm ARC. That makes it a smart pick if you own or plan to build a 6 ARC rifle alongside your AR-15.
The QD flash hider in 1/2×28 is included in the box, so you can thread it onto a standard AR muzzle and start shooting. The mount uses a tapered shoulder with secondary retention, which gives you a solid lockup and consistent return to zero when swapping the can between rifles.
Yes, and that is one of its biggest selling points. The baffle design manages gas flow to cut over-gassing and reduce the gas blowback you feel at your face, which matters a lot on short barrel rifles. Your rifle stays cleaner and cycles closer to its unsuppressed behavior.
