The Kel-Tec P15 answers a question a lot of carry gun folks have been asking for years: why do you have to give up capacity to get a truly thin, light pistol? At roughly 14 ounces unloaded and just under an inch wide, this striker-fired 9mm still holds 15+1 rounds thanks to a clever double-stack magazine design. That puts it in rare territory, lighter than most micro-compacts while carrying like a slim single-stack and feeding like a duty gun.
The polymer frame keeps weight to a minimum, and the 4 inch barrel gives you a longer sight radius and better velocity than the stubby barrels common on pistols this size. The sights are a real highlight. Up front you get a bright fiber optic that grabs your eye in daylight, paired with an adjustable two-dot tritium rear so you are covered when the light drops off. Front and rear slide serrations make press checks and racking easy, the magazine release is reversible for lefties, and a Picatinny rail under the muzzle gives you room for a compact light or laser. There is also a beavertail-style grip safety, a feature you do not see often on modern striker guns, adding a passive layer of security without any levers to think about on the draw.
Kel-Tec ships the P15 with a flush-fitting 12-round magazine for deep concealment and an extended 15-round magazine that adds a little extra grip real estate along with the added capacity. Run the flush mag inside the waistband and keep the 15-rounder as your reload, or carry the big one full time if your cover garment allows. Either way, you are getting genuine double-stack capacity from a pistol that all but disappears on the belt.
The trigger breaks clean at around 5 pounds and stays consistent shot to shot, which helps this featherweight print tighter groups than you might expect. It runs well with standard 115 grain range ammo and heavier defensive loads alike, making it easy to train with the same gun you carry.
It sits in a sweet spot between micro-compacts and compact duty guns. Recoil is livelier than a heavier pistol, which is just physics with a 14 ounce gun, but the low bore axis keeps muzzle flip modest and it settles quickly with a solid grip.
