The KelTec KP50 is the next chapter in KelTec's 5.7x28mm story, and it's a real step up from the P50 that came before it. The headline number hasn't changed: you still get 50 rounds of 5.7 on tap feeding from FN P90-pattern magazines. What's different is how you load it. Instead of the old top-hinged setup that made you crack the gun open to swap mags, the KP50 inserts from the bottom and drops free when you hit the release, just like running an AR or any standard pistol. For anyone who shot the original P50, this alone is worth the price of admission.
This listing is the base pistol configuration in black. It ships with one 50-round magazine and a rear Picatinny rail at the back of the receiver, leaving the door open for you to add a side-folding brace or stock down the road. At around 3.2 pounds empty and roughly 18.6 inches long, it stays compact and easy to maneuver, which is a big part of the appeal for a gun packing this much ammo.
Under the hood, KelTec swapped the P50's pistol fire control for the proven SU16 trigger group sitting in a fully machined lower receiver. The pull runs a touch heavier at about 6.5 pounds, but the feel and reset land closer to what AR shooters expect. You also get a B5 Systems grip installed from the factory, a non-reciprocating AR-style charging handle at the rear, and ambidextrous controls so lefties aren't fighting the gun.
The 9.6-inch barrel sits right in the sweet spot for getting the most out of 5.7x28mm, delivering flat trajectory and low recoil that keeps you on target round after round. The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28 TPI, so adding a suppressor or muzzle device is plug-and-play. A full-length top rail keeps it optics-ready for a red dot or LPVO.
One of the neater tricks here is the optional Jungle Clip system, which clamps two 50-round mags back-to-back. Run one dry, pull it, flip it 180 degrees, reseat, and you're back in the fight with another 50. KelTec also makes a dedicated speedloader for these mags, which your thumbs will appreciate after a few range trips. The base pistol doesn't include those, but the platform is built to accept them whenever you're ready.
This base pistol configuration ships with one 50-round magazine. If you want to run the 100-round Jungle Clip setup, you'll need a second magazine and the clip hardware, which are sold separately. The braced and SBR models come with two mags and the Jungle Clip from the factory, but this is the standalone pistol.
The biggest change is the magazine. The P50 loaded from the top through a hinged upper you had to open, while the KP50 uses a bottom-insert, drop-free mag that reloads like a normal pistol or PCC. KelTec also moved to a machined lower with the SU16 trigger group and added an AR-style rear charging handle, so it handles a lot more like a familiar rifle platform.
