Bullpups have always promised a lot: full rifle ballistics in a package short enough to work in tight spaces. The catch has usually been the ejection port throwing brass past your face if you shoulder it on the wrong side, plus triggers that feel like squeezing a rusty gate hinge. The Kel-Tec RDB tackles both problems head on. Its patented downward ejection drops spent cases through a chute behind the magwell, so there is no ejection port next to your cheek at all. Shoot it left handed, right handed, or switch shoulders around a corner. It does not care.
This tan RDB carries a 17.3 inch pencil profile barrel with a 1:7 twist, which stabilizes everything from light varmint loads to heavy 77 grain match ammo, and it still measures only about 27.3 inches overall. That is shorter than most 16 inch carbines while giving you extra velocity out of the longer tube. The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28 and wears a flash hider from the factory, so adding your favorite muzzle device is easy. The short stroke gas piston system is fully adjustable, letting you tune the rifle for different ammunition or a suppressor without beating up the gun or yourself. At roughly 6.7 pounds unloaded with the balance point sitting right over the grip, it shoulders fast and swings naturally.
No proprietary magazine headaches here. The RDB runs on standard AR-15 pattern mags and ships with one 20 rounder in the box. Up top you get a full length Picatinny rail for optics, plus a bottom rail on the high impact Zytel forend for lights, lasers, or a grip. It ships without sights, so plan on mounting a red dot or LPVO, which is how most owners run these anyway.
Kel-Tec put real work into the trigger, and it shows. The take-up is smooth and the break is clean, which is rare praise for any bullpup. Yes, the RDB feeds from standard AR-15 pattern magazines, which is a big plus over bullpups that require proprietary mags. This model ships with one 20-round magazine, and your existing 30 rounders will drop right in. Just note that the magazine sits behind the grip, so reloads take a little practice at first.
It is, and that is the whole point of the design. Spent brass ejects downward through a chute behind the magwell instead of out the side, so there is no case or hot gas coming past your face regardless of which shoulder you use. The safety is ambidextrous and the operating handle is reversible, so lefties can run it without any modification.

The 1/2×28 threaded muzzle accepts standard 5.56 suppressors and muzzle devices once you remove the factory flash hider. Even better, the adjustable short-stroke gas piston system lets you dial the gas down for suppressed shooting, which keeps the action running clean and reduces gas blowback. It is one of the more suppressor-friendly bullpups out there.
