This is the rifle version of KelTec's P50 pistol, chambered in 5.7x28mm and fed by FN P90 style magazines that lay flat along the top of the receiver. The name is literal: R50 stands for Rifle, 50 Rounds. At 3.48 pounds unloaded, it feels almost impossibly light for something carrying that much ammo, yet the 5.7 cartridge keeps recoil so mild that fast follow-up shots come naturally.
The side-folding stock pivots to rest along either side of the grip, taking the R50 from 30.5 inches deployed down to just 21.5 inches folded. That makes it a natural fit for a pack, truck bag, or tight gun safe. This model wears the green receiver and matching polymer furniture over a black 16.1 inch barrel, which is threaded 1/2×28 with a 1:7 twist for anyone planning to add a muzzle device. Controls are fully ambidextrous, including the safety, and the AR-style charging handle runs smooth and familiar.
Adjustable iron sights come installed and handle windage and elevation, but the real estate is where this thing shines. You get over 7 inches of Picatinny rail up top for red dots, magnifiers, or scopes, plus another 2 inches underneath for a light or hand stop. A QD sling cup sits just above the magazine release, perfectly placed for a single-point sling setup.
Between the velocity of the 5.7x28mm round, the featherweight handling, and that huge magazine capacity, the R50 makes a fun range companion, a capable small game rig, and a genuinely practical compact carbine. KelTec includes two 50-round magazines, so you are set for 100 rounds before the first reload of the day.
The R50 feeds from FN P90 style 50-round magazines that sit horizontally along the top of the receiver. Two 50-round mags ship with the rifle, and aftermarket P90 pattern magazines work as well, so spares are easy to find.
Folded, the R50 measures just 21.5 inches, and the stock rests neatly along either side of the grip. Extended, it comes out to 30.5 inches. At 3.48 pounds unloaded, it stows in a backpack or small case without any fuss.
