The M&P FPC answers a question a lot of folks have been asking: how do you get a real 16 inch barreled 9mm carbine into a bag that doesn't scream gun? Smith & Wesson's solution is a horizontal folding hinge that lets this Flat Dark Earth carbine collapse to just over 16 inches for storage, then snap back to a rigid 30.4 inch platform when it's time to shoot. Because it folds to the side instead of over the top, your red dot stays put and holds zero, which is a detail plenty of other folding designs get wrong.
If you already own an M&P 9mm pistol, this carbine slots right into your setup. The FPC accepts full-size and compact M&P double-stack 9mm magazines, and this bundle ships with one 17-rounder and two 23-round extended mags. Better yet, the buttstock has built-in storage for two spare magazines with a quick-release latch, so the gun carries its own reloads. Grab it out of the included carry bag and you've got 63 rounds on board without touching a mag pouch.
The blowback action pairs with an internal recoil buffer to keep this thing soft-shooting and pleasant, and the 16.25 inch 4140 steel barrel wrings noticeably more velocity out of 9mm than any pistol will. The flat-face trigger breaks clean, the grip uses familiar M&P M2.0 ergonomics with palmswell inserts, and the crossbolt safety plus reversible controls keep lefties happy. Up top you get a Picatinny rail for optics, M-LOK slots along the slim handguard for a light or hand stop, and a 1/2×28 threaded muzzle if you want to run a suppressor down the road.
At right around five pounds, this is an easy gun to keep behind the truck seat, in a go bag, or tucked in the closet. It works as a home defense carbine, a trail companion, a PCC match gun, or just a fun way to burn through 9mm on a Saturday. The included bag is plain and unmarked with tie-down straps and extra pockets, and the whole package is backed by Smith & Wesson's lifetime service policy.
It runs any full-size or compact M&P double-stack 9mm pistol magazine, which is a big plus if you already own an M&P Shield Plus won't work, but M&P 2.0 full-size and compact mags drop right in. This FDE bundle ships with one 17-round and two 23-round magazines, and the stock stores two spares on board.
It folds sideways to roughly 16.4 inches, short enough to fit in the included carry bag, a backpack, or under a vehicle seat. Unfolded, it locks up solid at about 30.4 inches overall. Since it hinges horizontally, a mounted red dot stays on the gun and holds zero through folding and unfolding.
Yes on both counts. There are no iron sights, but the full-length Picatinny top rail takes red dots or low-power scopes, and the handguard has M-LOK slots for lights and accessories. The 16.25 inch barrel is threaded 1/2×28, so it accepts most common 9mm suppressors and muzzle devices.
It makes a strong case. The blowback action with an integrated recoil buffer keeps it soft and controllable, it's accurate enough to print tight groups at 50 yards, and with 23-round mags plus in-stock spares you have plenty of capacity on hand. Add a red dot and a weapon light and it's a very capable setup.
