The RDB Defender is what happened when Kel-Tec took the original RDB and the stripped-down RDB Survival and combined the best parts of each. The result is a 5.56 NATO bullpup that keeps a full 16.1 inch barrel while measuring only 27 inches from muzzle to buttpad, about the size of an AR pistol but with real rifle ballistics. At 6.7 pounds it carries easily, and because the action sits behind the grip, the balance point lands right at your firing hand. That makes it quick to swing in tight spaces, easy to run around a truck or a blind, and a genuinely fun rifle at the range.
Most bullpups force left-handed shooters to swap parts or eat brass. The RDB sidesteps that whole problem with its patented downward ejection, dropping spent cases through a chute behind the magwell. Pair that with the ambidextrous safety, the mag and bolt releases located behind the pistol grip, and a reversible charging handle, and you have a rifle either shoulder can run without a single modification. The trigger is another pleasant surprise. Bullpups are notorious for mushy linkage-driven triggers, but the RDB's design delivers a clean pull in the neighborhood of four pounds, which is better than plenty of factory ARs.
The Defender wears a 16.1 inch pencil profile barrel with a 1:7 twist that stabilizes everything from 55 grain plinking loads to heavier match bullets. The short-stroke gas piston is fully adjustable, so you can tune it for different ammo or dial it down for suppressed shooting. Up top you get a full-length Picatinny rail for optics, and the aluminum M-LOK handguard gives you plenty of real estate for lights and accessories without adding bulk. The collapsible stock lets you fine-tune length of pull, and the tan finish sets it apart from the sea of black rifles.
Magazines are refreshingly simple here. The RDB runs standard AR-15 pattern mags, so PMAGs and aluminum GI magazines you already own will work. It ships with a 20 round magazine for a 20+1 capacity out of the box.
