Description
There's a reason the Tavor X95 comes up in nearly every conversation about bullpups. IWI took everything they learned building rifles for the Israel Defense Forces and refined the original Tavor SAR into something noticeably better. The trigger pack was reworked down to a 5 to 6 pound pull, the ambidextrous mag release moved to the spot AR users already expect, and the charging handle shifted back closer to your body for faster, more natural manipulation. Pick one up after running an AR and the transition is a lot smoother than you'd think.
Why the Tavor X95 Layout Just Works
The whole point of a bullpup is getting full rifle ballistics out of something you can swing through a doorway, and the X95 nails it. The 16.5 inch cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined CrMoV barrel sits in a rifle measuring just 26.125 inches overall. That barrel wears a 1:7 twist that stabilizes heavier 5.56 loads well, and the muzzle is threaded 1/2×28 with a flash hider installed, so adding your favorite muzzle device or suppressor is simple. The long-stroke gas piston system with its closed rotating bolt runs clean and keeps chugging along when dirty, which is a big part of why these rifles have such a strong reputation for reliability.
Built to Run Your Gear
Up top you get a full-length Picatinny rail with folding backup sights built in, including a tritium front post for low light. The forend adds rail sections at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock with removable covers, so lights and lasers mount right up. It feeds from standard AR-15 pattern magazines and ships with a 30-round Magpul PMAG G3 in the box. The modular pistol grip can even be swapped to a standard grip with a traditional trigger guard if that fits your hand better.
Living With the X95
At 7.9 pounds it's not featherweight, but the rearward balance point makes it feel lighter and quicker on target than the scale suggests. Whether it rides in the truck, guards the house, or just turns heads at the range, the X95 earns its spot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Tavor X95 use standard AR-15 magazines?
Yes, the X95 feeds from standard AR-15 pattern STANAG magazines, and it ships with a 30-round Magpul PMAG G3 in the box. IWI recommends running American-made magazines in this rifle, so quality PMAGs and similar US-made mags are the way to go. If you already own an AR, your existing mag supply carries right over.
Is the IWI Tavor X95 good for left-handed use?
Out of the box the controls are ambidextrous, including the safety and magazine release, so lefties can run it as-is. For dedicated left-handed shooting, IWI offers a left-hand bolt and ejection conversion so brass exits the correct side. That kind of true ambi flexibility is rare among bullpups.
How does the X95 trigger compare to the original Tavor SAR?
The X95 got a completely new fire control pack with a 5 to 6 pound pull, which is a real improvement over the heavier trigger in the original SAR. It's crisp enough for practical accuracy work while staying appropriate for a defensive rifle. Aftermarket trigger packs are also available if you want to tune it further down the road.
Can I mount a suppressor on the Tavor X95 XB16?
Yes, the muzzle is threaded in the common 1/2×28 pattern and comes with a flash hider installed, so most 5.56 suppressors and muzzle devices thread right on. The long-stroke gas piston system also tends to run well suppressed. Since Spring 2020, these rifles ship with the updated recoil mechanism paired with a 5.56-specific piston.
