Named after the legendary Key of Solomon, the Mafteah (Hebrew for "key") is IWI's answer to the compact 12 gauge question, and it brings some clever engineering to the table. Instead of a gas system, it runs a recoil-operated action with the recoil spring wrapped around the magazine tube, a proven layout that goes back to some of the most reliable autoloaders ever made. That design choice is what lets IWI keep the whole package so short while still cycling shells the way a semi-auto should.
The 14-inch smooth bore barrel wears a vent rib up top and a fixed cylinder choke, so it patterns well with defensive loads at close range. The 3-inch chamber gives you flexibility on ammo, with the tube holding 5 rounds of 2 3/4-inch shells or 4 rounds of 3-inch. The receiver comes drilled and tapped for MOS optics or a 1913 rail section, so adding a red dot is a simple job. Up front, M-LOK slots on the handguard handle lights and other accessories, and the reinforced polymer birdshead grip includes QD attachment points for a sling.
IWI put real thought into the controls here. The charging handle is enlarged, knurled, and reversible for lefties or righties, the bolt release is oversized and easy to hit under stress, and the crossbolt safety sits right behind the trigger where your finger naturally finds it, even with gloves on. At around 5.75 pounds, this thing points fast and swings easy in hallways and vehicles where a full-size shotgun feels like a canoe paddle.
Compact scatterguns in this category are usually pump guns. Getting semi-auto speed in a footprint this small, from a company with IWI's reputation for building rugged, duty-grade firearms, is what sets the Mafteah apart.
