The Iver Johnson Noble Eagle EX is built on the Eagle Gen 2 platform, which means underneath all that gold and engraving you have a serious, well-engineered 1911. The slide and frame are forged steel, CNC machined, and then hand fitted to tight tolerances. Iver Johnson's Gen 2 line runs on a Series 70 design, so there's no firing pin block to worry about and the trigger action stays clean. The hammer-forged, crowned barrel is 5 inches and gets the same polished gold PVD treatment as the rest of the pistol.
The PVD finish is worth talking about separately from the aesthetics. Physical Vapor Deposition molecularly bonds a micro-thin metallic layer directly to the steel, making it significantly harder and more corrosion resistant than traditional plating. It won't chip or peel under heat or mechanical stress the way cosmetic coatings can. So the gold here isn't just for show. It's going to hold up.
Scroll engraving covers the slide and frame, and the grips are Exotic Amboina dark wood, a figured burl wood prized for its swirling grain patterns. Controls are all business: beavertail grip safety with memory bump, ambidextrous thumb safety, lowered and flared ejection port, a Monoblock trigger, and a skeletonized hammer. Sights are a brass-insert front and an adjustable Novak-style rear. The beveled magazine well keeps reloads smooth.

Amboina is a highly figured burl wood sourced from the Amboyna tree, known for its rich swirling grain patterns and warm reddish-brown tones. Paired with the polished gold PVD finish and scroll engraving on the Noble Eagle EX, the contrast is striking. No two sets of Amboina grips are identical since the figuring varies naturally from piece to piece.

The Noble Eagle EX ships with two standard 8-round single-stack .45 ACP magazines and has a capacity of 8+1. Because it's built on a standard Government-size 1911 frame, it's compatible with most quality aftermarket 1911 .45 ACP single-stack magazines from brands like Wilson Combat, Chip McCormick, and others.
Iver Johnson offers a few gold-finish 1911 variants, but the Noble Eagle EX stands out with its combination of hand-scroll engraving across both the slide and frame, exotic Amboina dark wood grips, and the polished gold PVD coating. The Golden Eagle models in the lineup use white pearl synthetic grips and have a different aesthetic. The Noble Eagle EX is the more ornate, collector-focused option in the family.
