Description

The factory plastic grips on a SIG P228 or P229 do the job, but they can feel slick and thin when your hands sweat or the recoil starts stacking up. These Hogue rubber panels fix that. They're molded from Hogue's OverMolded synthetic rubber, which gives you a soft, cushioned feel that tames recoil without turning spongy or tacky in your hand. You still get the same point of aim and accuracy, just with a grip that fills the hand better and stays put.

What Makes the Hogue P228/P229 Panels Different

The standout here is Hogue's Cobblestone texture. Instead of aggressive checkering that chews up your palm over a long day, the Cobblestone pattern gives you a non-slip, non-irritating surface that grabs well without being harsh. These are true wraparound panels with no finger grooves, so your hand finds its own natural position rather than being forced into someone else's spacing. Folks with medium hands tend to appreciate that the panels add grip and comfort with only a small bump in thickness over the stock grips.

Fit and Frame Engagement on the SIG Rubber Grips

Hogue molds a reinforcing insert right into these panels that engages the frame directly, which is what gives them that solid, no-wiggle feel once they're torqued down. They're built for the P228 and P229 in both DA/SA and DAK configurations, and they also cover the P229S, P229 SAS, M11-A1, and the E2 models. Keep in mind they will not fit the Legion series or the P229 Carry. If you're running E2 grips now, you'll pull those off to expose the screw holes underneath.

Getting Them On Your SIG

Installation is straightforward with the right hardware. Grip screws are not included, so if yours are worn or you've got E2 grips without traditional screws, plan on grabbing a set. Hogue recommends torquing the screws to 13 to 15 inch-pounds with a dab of blue thread locker so nothing backs out under recoil. A properly fitted driver keeps you from marring the rubber or stripping the heads. It's a quick upgrade that makes an older SIG feel a whole lot better in the hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do these Hogue grips come with grip screws?

No, grip screws are not included with these panels. If your current screws are worn or you're moving over from E2 grips that don't use traditional screws, you'll want to pick up a set separately. Hogue offers matching screw sets for the P226/P228/P229 family in both hex and slotted heads.

Will these Hogue panels fit a P229 Legion or P229 Carry?

No. These are designed for the standard P228 and P229 in DA/SA and DAK setups, and they do not fit the Legion series or the P229 Carry. They will fit the P229S, P229 SAS, M11-A1, and the P228/P229 E2 models.

How much thicker will my grip feel with the Hogue rubber panels?

The increase is pretty minimal. Most owners find the panels add just a touch of thickness over the stock plastic grips while making the pistol noticeably more comfortable and easier to hold onto. The OverMolded rubber cushions recoil without turning soft or squishy in the hand.

What's the Cobblestone texture like compared to checkering?

The Cobblestone pattern is a rounded, pebbled texture that grips well without being sharp or abrasive on your palm. It gives you reliable, non-slip control through long range sessions and stays comfortable even when your hands are sweaty. It's a good middle ground for anyone who finds aggressive checkering too rough over time.
