There is a reason the Model 92 pattern has stayed in production for well over a century. John Browning got the dual locking bolt lever action right the first time, and Heritage builds on that legacy here with a full length rifle configuration in .45 Colt. The 24 inch octagon barrel is polished stainless, matched to a stainless receiver and warm hardwood stock, giving you that classic frontier rifle profile with modern corrosion resistance baked in. The long sight radius from that octagon barrel makes a real difference when you are stretching a pistol cartridge out to rifle distances.
Feeding happens through a side loading gate into the under barrel tube magazine, which holds a full 12 rounds of .45 Colt with one more in the chamber. Topping off mid string is quick, and the action cycles with the smooth, short throw that made the 1892 design a favorite for cowboy action work. Sights are a drift adjustable front paired with an adjustable buckhorn rear, so you can dial things in for your preferred load. Out of a 24 inch barrel, .45 Colt picks up useful velocity while staying pleasant on the shoulder, which makes this an easy rifle to shoot all afternoon. Heritage also added a firing pin block thumb safety up top, a modern touch that stays out of the way when you are running the lever.
Stainless lever guns are practical in a way blued rifles never quite match. Sweat, rain, and a season riding in a truck or ATV scabbard are much less of a worry, and the polished finish against hardwood looks sharp doing it. This rifle is chambered for .45 Colt, often called .45 Long Colt, the classic revolver cartridge. It is not chambered for .45 ACP, and the two are not interchangeable. Standard pressure .45 Colt loads feed through the side gate into the tube magazine and pick up a nice velocity bump from the 24 inch barrel.
The under barrel tubular magazine holds 12 rounds of .45 Colt, plus one in the chamber for a total of 13. Loading is done through the side gate on the receiver, so you can top off the magazine anytime without opening the action.
Heritage uses the Ranch Hand name across several 92 series configurations, but this particular model is a full size rifle with a 24 inch octagon barrel and a standard hardwood buttstock. You get a proper length of pull, a long sight radius, and rifle capacity rather than the shortened mare's leg format.
Heritage has been part of the Taurus family since 2012, and these lever guns are produced at the Taurus facility in Bainbridge, Georgia. The design follows John Browning's Winchester Model 1892 pattern with its dual locking bolt action, side loading gate, and top eject, plus a modern firing pin block safety added to the bolt.
