Yes. Like most .357 Magnum lever guns, the Heritage 92 also runs .38 Special. That gives you a soft-shooting, budget-friendly option for plinking and practice, while keeping full-power .357 Magnum loads on hand for hunting or ranch duty. Both cycle smoothly through the action.
The 92 loads through a side loading gate on the right of the receiver, just like the classic Model 92 pattern it is based on. Rounds feed from an under-barrel tube magazine that holds 8 rounds, and spent cases eject out the top of the receiver. You can top off the magazine anytime without opening the action.
The gold color is a PVD coating applied over a stainless steel receiver, not paint or plating. PVD is a hard, thin-film finish known for good wear and corrosion resistance, which is why it shows up on working firearms and not just showpieces. Treat it like any quality firearm finish with basic cleaning and it should stay sharp for years.
At woods ranges, yes. The 18-inch barrel wrings noticeably more velocity out of .357 Magnum than a revolver does, putting solid energy on target inside 100 yards or so with good hunting loads. It has long been a favorite setup for hogs, coyotes, and deer-sized game where shots stay close.
