Back in the late 1950s, Steve McQueen carried a cut-down lever gun on Wanted: Dead or Alive, and that oddball sidearm became more famous than the show itself. Henry Repeating Arms builds the Big Boy Mare's Leg H006GML as a faithful tribute to that original, right down to the American walnut furniture shaped to match the TV gun. It fires with all the speed of a lever action but rides in a holster like a pistol, and there is really nothing else on the wall quite like it.
The heart of this gun is the same polished hardened brass receiver and famously crisp action found on Henry's full-size Big Boy rifles. The 12.9 inch octagon blued steel barrel gives it that classic frontier profile, and the large loop lever makes cycling fast and easy, even with gloves on. Chambering is .44 Magnum with the option to run softer-recoiling .44 Special, which makes range days a lot more pleasant and keeps ammo choices flexible. Sights are a brass bead up front paired with a fully adjustable semi-buckhorn rear with diamond insert, and the receiver comes drilled and tapped if you ever want to mount optics.
This is the Side Gate version, and that matters. You can top off the five-round tube magazine through the loading gate on the receiver without breaking your grip, then use the removable magazine tube to unload safely at the end of the day. It is the best of both loading systems in one gun.
