There is something about carrying a lever gun through the field that a pump or semi-auto just can't match, and the Henry Provider delivers that feel in shotgun form. Built on the same blued steel frame as Henry's .45-70 rifle, the H018G-410 runs 2.5 inch .410 shells through a smooth, short-throw lever that cycles fast and feels instantly familiar if you've spent any time behind a Henry rifle. The 6-round tube magazine gives you plenty on tap, and the side loading gate means you can top off without breaking your grip or cycling shells through the action. You can also load and unload through the front of the tube, which makes clearing the gun at the end of the day quick and painless.
The .410 works best when you squeeze every bit of performance out of it, and the Provider's 24 inch round blued barrel does exactly that. It wrings full velocity out of those little shells, softens the report, and swings smoothly on flushing birds and crossing clays. Better yet, the barrel is factory threaded for Invector-style choke tubes and ships with a full choke installed, so you can tighten up patterns for squirrels and rabbits or swap in something more open for close work over dogs. A brass bead up front keeps your eye where it belongs, and the receiver comes drilled and tapped for a Weaver 63B base if you want to mount an optic.
Henry didn't cut corners on the woodwork. The American walnut stock and forend wear crisp checkering at the pistol grip wrist and forearm, and the deep bluing on the steel gives it the look of a gun you'll be proud to pull out of the safe. Sling swivel studs come standard for long walks in the uplands, a ventilated rubber recoil pad caps the butt even though the .410's push is mild to begin with, and a transfer bar safety keeps things simple with no buttons to fumble. At 7.54 pounds with a 14 inch length of pull, it carries well and fits a wide range of folks, making it a natural pick for new wingshooters and seasoned lever gun fans alike.
The Provider is chambered for 2.5 inch .410 shells only, and it will not run 3 inch magnums. Henry set it up this way on purpose, since the shorter chamber allows a short-throw lever that cycles quickly and smoothly. Standard 2.5 inch birdshot, buckshot, and slug loads all feed fine.
Yes, the 24 inch barrel is factory threaded for Invector-style choke tubes, and a full choke comes installed from the factory. That means you can swap to improved cylinder, modified, or other Invector-pattern tubes to match your patterns to the job, whether that's close flushes over a dog or longer shots on squirrels.
You've got two options. The side loading gate lets you feed shells directly into the receiver and top off the magazine anytime, while the removable tube magazine loads and unloads through the front. That tube design is a real convenience at the end of a hunt since you can empty the gun without cycling every shell through the action.
You can. The receiver comes drilled and tapped from the factory and accepts a Weaver 63B scope base. A low-power scope or red dot pairs nicely with slugs or tight-choked small game loads, though the brass bead front sight works great on its own for wingshooting and clays.
