Anyone who grew up on Terminator 2 remembers the scene: a lever-action shotgun pulled out of a long box of roses at exactly the right moment. Chiappa built the 1887 Rose Box Bootleg as a tribute to that moment, and they didn't phone it in. The right side of the receiver wears a laser-engraved rose along with a J-Day Anniversary inscription, and the whole thing ships in a rose presentation box with three artificial roses tucked inside. It is one of the most fun unboxings in the firearms world, full stop.
Strip away the tribute details and you still have a faithful reproduction of the Winchester 1887, widely regarded as the first truly successful repeating shotgun. This Bootleg version runs an 18.5 inch blued barrel chambered for 2.75 inch 12 gauge shells, feeding from a five-round magazine tube for 5+1 total. The compact pistol-grip walnut stock and matching forend carry a hand-oiled finish that looks miles better than anything sprayed on at a factory, and the all-steel construction gives it a stout 7.8 pound heft that soaks up recoil better than you'd expect. Overall length comes in at a handy 27.5 inches.
The action uses the original solid lever design paired with a half-cock hammer and an internal safety, so there's no modern crossbolt cluttering up the lines. Cycling an 1887 takes a bigger, more deliberate throw than a Winchester 94, and that's part of the charm. Give it a range session or two and working the big loop becomes second nature. A simple bead sight up front keeps things period correct and quick to pick up on target.
This one splits its time well between collectors, cowboy action fans, and movie buffs who want the centerpiece of their collection to be something they can shoot. Compared to Chiappa's rubber-coated T-Model, the Rose Box's real walnut and engraving make it the better looking of the two by a wide margin. Limited edition pieces like this don't tend to sit around long.

It's built from steel with a stout 7.8 pound weight that tames 12 gauge recoil nicely, and the lever action cycles reliably once you get used to the longer throw the 1887 design requires. Plenty of owners run these at the range and in cowboy action matches, then put them back on display with the rose box.
