Most lever guns make you choose between good looks and real ballistic reach. The Henry Long Ranger Wildlife Edition in .308 Winchester gives you both. This is the elk version of Henry's Wildlife series, and the receiver work is the first thing anyone notices: highly polished nickel plating with fine scroll engraving framing 24K gold inlays, a bull elk in a mountain scene on the left flat and a grazing pair on the right. Pair that with nicely figured checkered American walnut and you have a rifle that looks like it belongs over the mantle. The difference is this one earns its keep in the field too.
The Long Ranger platform took the traditional lever action and rebuilt it for modern cartridges. Instead of a tube magazine, it feeds from a detachable steel box magazine holding four rounds, which lets it run pointed .308 Win and 7.62×51 NATO bullets safely. The exposed hammer and forged steel lever feel familiar, but a geared action drives a chromed 6-lug rotary bolt into a barrel extension for a strong, consistent lockup shot after shot. That is a big part of why these rifles group more like a bolt gun than a saddle carbine.
The 20 inch round blued barrel wears a 1:10 twist that stabilizes the full range of .308 hunting weights, from 150 grain deer loads up through 180 grain elk medicine. Sights come standard, with a ramp front carrying a .062 inch ivory bead and a folding, fully adjustable rear. When you are ready to stretch it out, the receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope mount. A black solid rubber recoil pad takes the sting out of full-power loads, sling swivel studs come installed, and at around 7 pounds with a 40.5 inch overall length, it carries well on long climbs.

Yes. The receiver comes drilled and tapped from the factory, so adding a scope base and rings is straightforward. It also ships with usable iron sights, an ivory bead front and a folding fully adjustable rear, so you can hunt with it right out of the box while you decide on glass.
The Long Ranger uses a detachable box magazine instead of a tube, which means it can safely run pointed .308 bullets that traditional tube-fed lever guns cannot. It also locks up with a geared action driving a 6-lug rotary bolt into the barrel extension, giving it bolt-action-like strength and accuracy while keeping the classic lever feel.
It does both jobs well. The engraved nickel receiver and gold elk inlays make it a genuine heirloom-grade piece, but underneath it is the same accurate, field-proven Long Ranger platform. With a 1:10 twist 20 inch barrel, .308 Win chambering, and a 7 pound carry weight, it is fully capable on elk, deer, and black bear.
Mechanically they are the same rifle. The Wildlife Edition adds a high-polish nickel-plated receiver with scroll engraving and 24K gold inlaid elk scenes on both flats, plus upgraded figured American walnut. Henry also offers Wildlife versions in .223 with coyote engraving and .243 with antelope engraving.
