Unlike traditional tube-fed lever guns, the Long Ranger runs a geared action with a rotating bolt that locks directly into the barrel extension, which is why it handles a flat-shooting cartridge like the .243 Win with no trouble. Feeding comes from a detachable 4-round steel box magazine, so you can run modern spire-point hunting bullets and reload quickly without fiddling with a loading gate. The 20 inch round blued steel barrel carries a 1:10 twist that stabilizes the popular 90 to 100 grain hunting loads, and the whole rifle comes in at a very carryable 7 pounds with a 40.5 inch overall length.
Out of the box you get a folding fully adjustable rear sight matched to a ramp front with a .062 inch ivory bead, a setup that works fine for closer timber work. The receiver is drilled and tapped for a Weaver 63B mount, and most owners end up glassing these rifles since the .243 will stretch well past iron sight distances. The straight-grip stock and forend are checkered American walnut, capped with a solid black rubber recoil pad and fitted with sling swivel studs from the factory. Length of pull is a standard 14 inches, and a transfer bar safety means it only fires when you mean it to.
