Description

There are safe queens and there are working rifles, and Henry decided this one gets to be both. The Long Ranger Coyote Wildlife Edition takes the proven Long Ranger platform and dresses it up with a high polish nickel plated receiver, scroll engraving, and 24K gold inlaid coyote artwork. You get a single coyote head on the left flat and a pair of full bodied coyotes on the right, so there is no mistaking what this rifle was built to chase. Set against the checkered American walnut straight grip stock and a deep blued 20 inch round barrel, the two tone look is a genuine head turner.

A Long Ranger Built for Calling Coyotes

Chambered in .223 Rem/5.56 NATO with a 1:9 twist, this rifle handles the full range of common varmint and predator loads. The Long Ranger action is nothing like your grandfather's tube fed carbine. It feeds from a 5 round detachable steel box magazine, which means you can run modern pointed bullets that hold their velocity way out where coyotes hang up. The lever cycles a geared action with a rotating locking bolt, so lockup is strong and follow up shots come fast without pulling your eyes off the dog coming to the call.

Sights, Scope Mounting, and Handling

Out of the box you get a folding fully adjustable rear sight and a ramp front with a .062 inch ivory bead, and the receiver comes drilled and tapped for when you are ready to add glass. At 7 pounds with a 40.5 inch overall length and 14 inch length of pull, it carries well on long walks between stands, and the included sling swivel studs make adding a sling simple. A transfer bar safety and a solid black rubber recoil pad round out the package.

Why This Wildlife Edition Stands Out

Henry offers the Wildlife series in three calibers with matching game engraving, and the Coyote version in .223 is the one predator hunters gravitate toward. It is the kind of rifle you can hunt hard all winter and still feel good about handing down someday. Craftsmanship like this does not come along every day in a lever gun.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mount a scope on the Henry Long Ranger Coyote Wildlife Edition?

Yes, the receiver comes drilled and tapped from the factory, so adding a base and rings is straightforward. Since the Long Ranger ejects spent cases out the side rather than the top, you can mount a scope low and centered over the bore. Plenty of owners run glass on these for longer predator shots while keeping the factory iron sights as backup.

Does the Long Ranger Coyote Edition shoot both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO?

It is marked for .223 Rem/5.56 NATO, so it handles both cartridges. The 1:9 twist barrel stabilizes most common bullet weights in the 40 to 69 grain range, which covers the vast majority of varmint and predator loads. That flexibility is a big part of why this chambering works so well for coyote hunting.

How is this different from a traditional tube-fed lever action?

The Long Ranger feeds from a detachable box magazine instead of a tube under the barrel, which means you can safely run modern pointed, aerodynamic bullets. It also uses a geared action with a rotating locking bolt, giving it the strength to handle modern high pressure cartridges. The result is bolt gun style accuracy potential with the fast handling of a lever gun.

Is the engraving on this Wildlife Edition durable enough for actual hunting use?

The coyote artwork is 24K gold inlay set into a high polish nickel plated receiver, and both hold up well with normal care. Nickel plating is naturally corrosion resistant, arguably more forgiving in wet weather than a bare blued receiver. Treat it like any nice walnut and steel rifle, wipe it down after hunts, and it will look sharp for decades.
