Harris earned its reputation the hard way, and the 251A2 is the model that turned a brand name into a whole category of bipod. This is the Model 25, the tall one, running from 12 inches all the way up to 25 inches. That range makes it one of the most versatile rests Harris builds. Drop it down for prone work, or pull those three-piece legs out to see over tall grass and brush when you're set up sitting. It clamps to the sling swivel stud on most bolt-action rifles with a conventional stock, and it still leaves a provision to run your sling.
The build is where these earn their keep. Harris makes the 25 from high-strength anodized aluminum alloy with the stressed parts tempered in spring steel, so it stays light without feeling flimsy. Folks who've run these report a decade or more of hard use across everything from .270 and .308 to hard-kicking .45-70, through rain, snow, and dust, with no complaints. The finish is a clean black anodize that shrugs off the elements.
The legs are the fun part. Spring-loaded folding legs kick out to height the moment you hit the release button, and each leg locks in at one-inch intervals with a thumb screw. Adjustments are quick and repeatable, which matters when an animal steps out and you've got seconds to settle. When you're done, the legs fold forward toward the muzzle and stay put under sturdy spring returns, so the bipod tucks out of the way while you carry the rifle.
This is the non-swivel Model 25, meaning the head is fixed rather than canting side to side. It's the go-to pick for anyone who wants one bipod that handles both prone shooting and taller sitting or kneeling shots in real field conditions. If your hunting country is open with plenty of grass and sage, the extra reach of the 25 is exactly what you want on the rifle.
The 251A2 clamps to the sling swivel stud on most bolt-action rifles built with a conventional stock. It's a quick-detach setup, and it still leaves room to run your sling. If your rifle uses a Picatinny or M-Lok forend instead of a stud, you'll want a stud adapter to mount it.
This is the non-swivel version, so the head stays fixed rather than canting side to side. Many shooters prefer the fixed head for a steady, no-fuss rest, and you can still level the rifle by adjusting the individual leg heights. If you specifically want side-to-side tilt for uneven ground, the swivel Model 25S is the one to look at.
It works well for prone at its lowest 12-inch setting, and plenty of hunters use it that way every season. The real advantage of the Model 25 is that it also reaches up to 25 inches, so you can shoot from the sitting or kneeling position and see over grass and brush. If you plan to shoot mostly low prone at the range, a shorter 9-13 inch model gets you closer to the ground.
