Description

The Griffin Armament DUAL-LOK Minimalist Brake is the muzzle device half of Griffin's DUAL-LOK quick-detach suppressor system, built for 22 caliber and 5.56 rifles running a 1/2×28 thread. If you're already in the DUAL-LOK family or planning to be, this is one of the pieces that lets your can snap on and come off without you fighting it, and without your zero wandering around every time you swap.

The clever part is in the numbers. The brake body carries 60 machined mounting grooves, and the mount adds two locking positions that sit 3 degrees out of phase from each other. Multiply that out and you get 120 effective locking positions, which is what gives this system its rock-solid lockup and very low point-of-impact shift. An integral taper seals the gases and forces the suppressor into alignment with the bore, so you're not fouling threads or chasing your zero after a range trip.

What Sets the DUAL-LOK Minimalist Brake Apart

This started life as a mount designed for hostage rescue teams and special forces contractors who needed something light, minimal, and accurate with a real physical lock rather than a wear-prone ratchet. Griffin brought that same design to the rest of us. It's machined from 17-4 PH stainless steel with a QPQ nitride finish for hardness and corrosion resistance, and the baffle is built to take blast and protect the front of your suppressor over the long haul.

Running the DLM556 On Your Rifle

Beyond its job as a suppressor mount, the DLM556 works as a standalone brake. The compensating ports help tame muzzle climb and knock down felt recoil, so even if the can stays home you're getting a flatter-shooting rifle. It weighs in around 2.6 ounces and runs under 1.5 inches long, so it adds barely any weight or length out front. A precision shim set is included so you can time it correctly during install. Keep in mind this is the muzzle device, so you'll need the matching DUAL-LOK mount or a DUAL-LOK series suppressor to complete the system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the DUAL-LOK Minimalist Brake work on its own as a muzzle brake?

Yes. Even without a suppressor attached, the compensating ports help reduce muzzle climb and felt recoil, so your rifle shoots flatter. It's a functional brake first and a suppressor mount second, which is what makes it a good all-around choice.

What suppressors does the DLM556 work with?

This is the muzzle device side of Griffin's DUAL-LOK system, so it pairs with the DUAL-LOK mount and DUAL-LOK series suppressors. You'll need the matching mount or a DUAL-LOK equipped can to complete the setup. It is not a universal mount that fits every suppressor brand.

Will my point of impact shift when I take the suppressor off and put it back on?

The whole point of the DUAL-LOK design is minimal, repeatable point-of-impact shift. Between the 120 effective locking positions and the integral taper that aligns the suppressor to the bore, lockup is consistent trip after trip. Most users see very little to no zero change when swapping the can on and off.

Does the brake need to be timed when I install it?

Yes, it does require timing, and Griffin includes a precision shim set in the box to get it clocked correctly. Thread it on, use the shims to index it straight, and torque to spec. The 3/4 inch wrench flats make it easy to work with.
