The brake's wear-resistant baffle sits at the muzzle and absorbs the harshest part of the blast before gases hit your suppressor's first baffle. That first baffle is usually the one that erodes fastest, so letting the brake take that abuse stretches the working life of the expensive part of your setup. It's much cheaper to eventually replace a brake than a silencer.
