Description

Great Lakes Firearms has built a reputation on turning out accurate, no-nonsense AR platforms out of Michigan, and this braced pistol carries that same DNA in a package short enough to tuck behind a truck seat or stage by the nightstand. The 7.5 inch heavy-profile stainless barrel is chambered in .223 Wylde, which is the smart middle ground between .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO chambers. You get the pressure tolerance to run surplus 5.56 safely and the tighter freebore that squeezes better accuracy out of .223 match loads. The 1:8 twist stabilizes everything from light 55 grain plinking ammo up to heavier 77 grain bullets, so you are not locked into one type of ammunition.

What Sets the GL15 .223 Wylde Braced Pistol Apart

Instead of the forged receivers you see on most budget builds, this one wears billet machined 7075 aluminum uppers and lowers with a clean tungsten Cerakote finish that looks great and shrugs off wear. The 7.125 inch free-float M-LOK handguard gives you a full-length Picatinny top rail for a red dot and plenty of slots for a light or hand stop. Up front, the 1/2×28 threaded muzzle comes capped with a GLFA muzzle brake that takes real bite out of the recoil impulse, which you will appreciate on a barrel this short. M4 feed ramps and a pistol-length gas system keep it cycling reliably.

Range Ready Out of the Box

Unlike some short-barrel builds that ship with a bare buffer tube, this SSPB model includes an adjustable ACE-style pistol brace from the factory along with one 30-round magazine. Add an optic and ammo and you are set. There are no sights included, so plan on a red dot or flip-ups, and the flat top rail makes mounting either one painless.

Why the Great Lakes Braced Pistol Earns Its Keep

At roughly 27.8 inches overall, this thing is genuinely handy in tight quarters, whether that means home defense, ranch duty, or just a fun range gun that fits in a backpack-style case. Great Lakes backs it with a lifetime warranty, and the fit and finish punch above what you would expect at this level.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Great Lakes .223 Wylde braced pistol shoot both .223 and 5.56?

Yes, that is the whole point of the .223 Wylde chamber. It safely handles the higher pressures of 5.56 NATO while keeping tighter chamber dimensions that tend to produce better accuracy with .223 Remington. You can run whichever ammo is cheapest or most accurate that day without a second thought.

Does this GL15 pistol come with a brace, or just a buffer tube?

This specific SSPB model ships with an adjustable ACE-style pistol brace already installed, along with one 30-round magazine. That is worth noting because Great Lakes also sells a version of this pistol with a bare buffer tube and no brace. With this one you are range ready as soon as you add an optic.

Does the Great Lakes braced pistol have sights included?

No, it ships without sights. The upper and handguard give you a continuous full-length Picatinny rail, so mounting a red dot, low-power scope, or flip-up iron sights is quick and easy. A compact red dot is the most popular setup on short builds like this.

What bullet weights work best with the 7.5 inch 1:8 twist barrel?

The 1:8 twist is a versatile middle-of-the-road rate that stabilizes most common bullet weights, roughly 55 to 77 grains. For a barrel this short, many folks find 62 to 77 grain loads run great, but standard 55 grain range ammo cycles just fine too. The included muzzle brake helps tame the extra blast that comes with a short barrel.
