The Glock G45 Gen6 is the latest version of the company's popular "crossover" pistol, built around the idea of giving you the best of two worlds. It uses the full-size frame of the G17 for a longer grip and 17-round capacity, then mates it to the shorter compact-length slide of the G19. The result is a 9mm that carries flatter and points faster than a full-size duty gun while still filling your hand and feeding from a 17-round magazine.
Gen6 is more than a refresh. The frame now has a built-in palm swell shaped around the average hand, and the new RTF6 dual texture wraps more of the grip, including the thumb rest, for a secure hold whether your hands are wet, gloved, or dry. An enlarged, integrated beavertail lets you ride your grip higher with no slide bite, and the undercut trigger guard helps your support hand sit closer to the bore for better recoil control. The standout change is the flat-faced trigger, which gives you a cleaner, more consistent break that shooters used to chase with aftermarket parts.
The slide on this model is cut from the factory for a red dot. It ships with three optic plates that let you bolt a Trijicon RMR-footprint optic directly into the slide, and the plates seat the optic lower for a closer-to-bore sight picture. Deeper, angled front and rear serrations give you solid purchase for press checks and clearing drills, and the nDLC finish on the slide and barrel adds real corrosion resistance and surface hardness for high round counts. Fixed Glock sights are included, so you can run irons, a dot, or both.
This is a strong pick for duty carry, home defense, range work, or competition. The reversible magazine release and ambidextrous slide stop make it friendly to lefties and righties alike, and the interchangeable backstraps let you dial in the grip size. One note worth knowing: your older 9mm double-stack Glock magazines will still run in the Gen6, but earlier-generation barrels are not compatible with this new model.
