Since the external dimensions and frame profile match the Gen5, existing holsters, weapon lights, and rail-mounted accessories designed for the Gen5 G17 should fit the V without issue. The one area to double-check is internal aftermarket parts — things like trigger components and the slide cover plate use updated V-series specifications and are not cross-compatible with Gen5 internals, so verify compatibility before ordering upgrade parts.
The G17 V is well suited for home defense. The full-size frame gives you a longer sight radius, more grip surface, and 17+1 rounds of 9mm on tap — and it ships with three magazines so you can keep extras staged. The Safe Action system means no external safety to fumble with under stress, and the platform is one of the most proven and reliable designs in the handgun world. If home defense is the primary use and concealability isn't a concern, it's a very capable choice.
The standard G17 V model does not have a factory-milled optics cut — it ships with fixed Glock sights and an uncut slide. If you want to run a red dot directly from the factory, Glock does not currently offer an MOS version of the V-series G17 in this configuration. The fixed sights are a common upgrade candidate, and plenty of aftermarket Gen5-compatible sight options will fit the V without modification.
The G17 V holds 17 rounds in the magazine plus one in the chamber for a total of 17+1. This package includes three factory 17-round magazines.
