Description

Semi-auto rifles chambered in 6.5 PRC are still a rare breed, and that's exactly what makes the Great Lakes GL-10 stand out. Most folks who want this cartridge end up with a bolt gun, but GLFA built a long-action AR platform that runs magnum-class rounds with the same ergonomics, controls, and follow-up speed you already know from the AR world. The 6.5 PRC delivers flatter trajectories and better wind performance than a 6.5 Creedmoor, which makes this rifle a legit option for western hunts, open-country whitetails, and steel way out past where most semi-autos tap out.

What Great Lakes Put Into the GL-10

The barrel is where this rifle earns its keep. It's a 24-inch 416R stainless tube with 5R rifling and a 1:8 twist, so it stabilizes the long, high-BC bullets that make the 6.5 PRC shine. The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24 and wears a stainless brake that takes real bite out of the recoil impulse, and a rifle-length gas system keeps the cycling smooth rather than snappy. Both the upper and lower receivers are machined from billet aluminum, with 7075 on the lower for extra rigidity, and the whole package gets a Pursuit Green camo Cerakote finish that looks sharp and shrugs off weather.

Set Up for Glass and Gear

There are no sights on board because this rifle is meant to wear an optic. The 20-inch M-LOK handguard runs a full-length Picatinny rail up top, giving you plenty of real estate for a scope with proper eye relief plus room for a bipod, sling mounts, or whatever else your setup calls for. A Hogue fixed rifle stock and mil-spec grip round out the furniture, and the trigger breaks at a familiar 5.5 to 6 pounds. The lower accepts standard AR-10 parts kits, triggers, and safeties, so upgrading down the road is simple.

Feeding the GL-10 in 6.5 PRC

It ships with a GLFA custom 5-round aluminum magazine sized for the long-action cartridge, which keeps the rifle handy for hunting duty. At 9.25 pounds bare, it settles nicely on a rest or shooting sticks and stays planted shot to shot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Great Lakes GL-10 in 6.5 PRC come with sights or an optic?

No, this rifle ships without sights. The 20-inch M-LOK handguard has a full-length Picatinny rail on top, so it's ready for a scope right out of the box. Given what the 6.5 PRC can do at distance, most owners pair it with quality magnified glass.

Will the GL-10 accept standard AR-10 magazines?

No, the 6.5 PRC is a long-action cartridge that won't fit standard AR-10 pattern mags. The GL-10 uses GLFA's proprietary 5-round aluminum magazine built for the longer cartridge, and one is included with the rifle. Spare magazines are available from Great Lakes.

Can I swap parts on the GL-10 like a regular AR-10?

In many cases, yes. The lower is compatible with standard AR-10 lower parts kits, triggers, and safeties, so common upgrades like a drop-in trigger are straightforward. The bolt carrier group and charging handle are GLFA's own custom designs made for the long-action platform.

How stout is the recoil on the GL-10 6.5 PRC?

It's very manageable for the performance you're getting. The 6.5 PRC is a moderate-recoiling cartridge to begin with, and the 9.25-pound weight, stainless muzzle brake, and rifle-length gas system all work together to soften the impulse. Most find it noticeably easier on the shoulder than magnum bolt guns in similar chamberings.
