Description

Semi-auto rifles chambered in 6.5 PRC are rare birds. The cartridge runs at magnum-length dimensions that a standard AR-10 simply can't feed, which is why Great Lakes Firearms built the GL10 LA around a stretched long-action platform. The result is a gas gun that pushes high-BC 6.5mm bullets at speeds well beyond what a 6.5 Creedmoor can deliver, with fast follow-up shots that no bolt gun can match. For hunters glassing open country or anyone stretching steel past 800 yards, that combination is hard to beat.

What Makes the GL10 6.5 PRC Worth a Look

The 24-inch barrel is machined from 416R stainless, the same grade used in premium match barrels, and cut with 5R rifling for cleaner bullet engraving and easier maintenance. That full-length tube gives the 6.5 PRC room to build velocity the way it was designed to. Up front, the muzzle is threaded 5/8×24 and wears a stainless brake that takes real bite out of the recoil, keeping you on target through your string. A rifle-length gas system smooths out the cycling, and the .750 gas block is 4150 steel with a black oxide finish.

Built on Billet, Ready for Glass

Both the upper and lower receivers are billet aluminum, with a 7075 lower for strength where it counts. The 20-inch M-LOK handguard runs nearly the full length of the barrel with a continuous Picatinny top rail, so mounting a scope with proper eye relief and adding a bipod out front is no trouble at all. There are no iron sights on board, and that's the right call for a rifle built to wear magnified optics. A Hogue fixed rifle stock gives you a solid, consistent cheek weld for precision work, and the mil-spec trigger breaks at a predictable 5.5 to 6 pounds. The GL10 feeds from a GLFA custom 5-round aluminum magazine sized for the PRC case, and the black Cerakote finish over stainless gives it a clean bi-tone look that holds up to weather in the field.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the GL10 6.5 PRC accept standard AR-10 or SR-25 magazines?

No, and that's by design. The 6.5 PRC is a magnum-length cartridge that won't fit in standard AR-10 pattern mags, so the GL10 LA uses GLFA's custom 5-round aluminum magazine built for the longer case. One magazine ships with the rifle, and spares are available from Great Lakes.

Does the Great Lakes GL10 come with sights or an optic?

It ships without sights, which makes sense for a rifle built around long-range work. The full-length Picatinny rail across the upper and 20-inch handguard gives you plenty of real estate to mount a magnified scope wherever your eye relief needs it. Plan on budgeting for quality glass, since that's where this rifle earns its keep.

Can I run a suppressor on the GL10 6.5 PRC?

Yes. The barrel is threaded 5/8×24, which is the common thread pattern for .30 cal and 6.5mm suppressors and muzzle devices. Just remove the factory stainless brake and thread on your can. The included brake does a nice job taming recoil if you'd rather run it as is.

How does 6.5 PRC compare to 6.5 Creedmoor in this platform?

The PRC is essentially the Creedmoor's bigger, faster sibling, pushing the same high-BC 6.5mm bullets roughly 200 to 250 fps quicker. That means flatter trajectories, less wind drift, and more retained energy at distance, which matters for longer shots on game. The 24-inch barrel on the GL10 lets the cartridge reach its full velocity potential.
