There's a reason the Colt 6920 family has been the benchmark carbine for decades. This version, the CR6920MPS-B, takes that proven foundation and hands it over to Magpul for the furniture, which means you skip the usual routine of buying a rifle and then immediately swapping half the parts off of it. The MOE SL handguard with M-LOK slots, SL collapsible stock, SL pistol grip, vertical foregrip, and MOE trigger guard all come installed from the factory. It even ships with a Magpul MBUS flip-up rear sight paired with the classic fixed A2 front post, so you can zero it and shoot the day you bring it home.
The heart of the rifle is a 16.1 inch chrome-lined chrome moly vanadium barrel with a 1:7 twist. That fast twist rate stabilizes everything from light 55 grain plinking ammo up to heavy 77 grain match loads, and the chrome lining shrugs off high round counts and lazy cleaning schedules. Underneath, you get forged 7075-T6 aluminum receivers, a carbine-length gas system, M4 feed ramps, and an A2 flash hider on a threaded muzzle. It's the same basic recipe that made Colt the standard for duty carbines, just wearing better clothes.
At roughly 6.9 pounds, this carbine carries easily and swings fast. The SL stock adjusts for length of pull and includes a recoil pad plus QD sling cup options, and the slim handguard fills the hand better than old-school plastic while giving you M-LOK real estate for a light or hand stop. The flat top upper takes an optic whenever you're ready.
Each rifle includes one 30-round PMAG, and the single stage trigger is a familiar, predictable mil-spec unit. Whether this is a first AR or an addition to the safe, it's a rifle you won't feel the need to tinker with before enjoying it.
The 1:7 twist rate is fast enough to stabilize nearly the full range of 5.56 and .223 bullet weights, from 55 grain range ammo up to heavier 69 and 77 grain match loads. The chamber is cut for 5.56 NATO, so it safely runs both 5.56 and .223 Remington. For casual range days, standard 55 grain FMJ works great, and the chrome-lined barrel holds up well to high volume.
Not really, and that's the whole appeal of this model. It comes with a fixed A2 front sight and Magpul MBUS rear sight already installed, a full set of MOE SL furniture, a vertical grip, and a 30-round PMAG. Grab some ammo and eye and ear protection and you're set for your first range trip.
Yes. The flat top upper receiver has a Picatinny rail that accepts red dots, LPVOs, and magnifier setups. The MBUS rear sight folds down out of the way, and many folks run it as a backup behind a red dot. Keep in mind the A2 front sight post is fixed, though most shooters find it disappears in the glass with a low-power or non-magnified optic.
It's built on the same proven 6920 platform, with the same 16.1 inch chrome-lined barrel, forged 7075-T6 receivers, and carbine gas system. The difference is the factory-installed Magpul MOE SL furniture package and MBUS rear sight, which upgrades the ergonomics and adds M-LOK attachment points without changing the core rifle that earned the 6920 its reputation.
