The Browning Hi Power is one of the most beloved pistol designs in history, but FN stopped making them in 2018 and the used market prices have been brutal ever since. Girsan, a Turkish manufacturer with over 30 years in the business, teamed up with EAA to fill that void with the MCP35, and they did not half-step it. The frame and slide are both machined from 4140 chrome-moly steel, heat-treated for durability, and finished in matte black. The only polymer on this gun is in the grip panels. This is an all-steel pistol through and through.
Girsan based the MCP35 closely on the Browning Hi Power Mark III, which means you get the external extractor, a serrated ring hammer in place of the old spur hammer, a slim trigger, and a windage drift-adjustable rear sight with a dovetail front. The slide also gets a milled optic cut compatible with the Shield RMSc footprint, so dropping a micro red dot on top is straightforward if that is your thing. The ambidextrous manual safety is a smart addition that works cleanly in either hand. At 32 ounces with an empty magazine, the steel frame does add a bit of heft over a polymer gun, but that weight pays dividends in how smoothly it absorbs recoil.
The single-action trigger on the MCP35 is one of the things people notice right away. When running an optic, be sure to verify holster compatibility since traditional leather Hi Power holsters may not accommodate the added height.
