The slide comes cut for RMS and RMSc footprint red dots, so popular micro optics mount directly without adapter plates. Prefer irons? Front and rear slide serrations give you plenty of grip for press checks and racking, and the lowered, flared ejection port keeps brass moving out cleanly. The slide is milled for the RMS/RMSc footprint, which covers a wide range of popular micro red dots including the Holosun 407K and 507K series and the Shield RMSc. These optics mount directly to the slide with no adapter plate needed. Keep in mind the rear sight sits on the cover plate, so you'll run either the dot or the irons rather than a co-witness setup.
It feeds from 2011-pattern double-stack magazines and ships with one 15-round Check-Mate mag. That 2011 pattern is the same general style used by pistols like the Staccato and Springfield Prodigy, which makes tracking down spares much easier than with proprietary designs. Extra mags are a smart pickup since the gun only comes with one.
It's a strong fit for that role. The 10mm Auto has the horsepower for hogs, deer at handgun ranges, and animal defense in bear country, and the 5-inch barrel wrings good velocity out of full-power loads. With 15+1 on board, an adjustable rear sight, and a rail for a light, it's set up well for the field. The steel slide and full-size frame also help soak up recoil from hot loads.
Not really. The Witness 2311 disassembles like a classic Government model: rotate the barrel bushing to release the recoil spring and plug, line up the slide stop cutout, push the stop out, and slide the top end off. If you've maintained a 1911 before, this one will feel completely familiar.
