Rimfire cans get filthy. That is just the nature of shooting 22LR, and it is exactly why Gemtech built the GM-22 around their G-Core design. The core pulls out of the tube for straightforward cleaning, so scrubbing out lead and carbon does not turn into an all-day project. Gemtech also treats the core with their C3 Technology, a slick finish that fights lead buildup and keeps disassembly manageable even after long range sessions. The company says you can run over a thousand rounds before it needs a takedown, which matches how most folks shoot a rimfire can in the real world.
The numbers here are worth a second look. Five inches long, one inch in diameter, and 2.5 ounces. For perspective, a standard A2 flash hider weighs about 2 ounces, so this can adds barely anything to the muzzle of a Ruger Mark IV, 22/45, or a lightweight rimfire rifle. Balance stays natural, sights stay usable, and the gun still feels like the gun. The tube is machined from 7075 aluminum, a noticeably stronger alloy than the 6061 used in plenty of budget rimfire cans, and it wears a matte black high-temp Cerakote finish with a reduced visual and IR signature.
Gemtech rates the GM-22 at 36 to 39 dB of reduction, with metered results around 123 dB on a Ruger 22/45 host. Beyond 22LR, it is also rated for 22WMR and 17HMR, so one can covers your plinker, your squirrel rifle, and your magnum rimfire. It is even full auto rated with 22LR. The 1/2×28 direct thread mount uses a titanium thread insert, which is a smart touch since threads are where lightweight aluminum cans tend to wear first. That insert keeps the mounting surface durable through years of on-and-off use across every 1/2×28 rimfire host in the safe.
Gemtech has been building suppressors since 1976, and the GM-22 reflects that experience. It is a simple, light, quiet can that does its job and stays out of the way.
The G-Core pulls out of the tube for hands-on cleaning, and the C3-treated core resists lead buildup so takedown stays easy. Stick to mild cleaners and manual scrubbing. Skip harsh solvents like Hoppe's No. 9, lead dip solutions, and ultrasonic cleaners, since those can damage the aluminum. Gemtech says the can will run over 1,000 rounds between cleanings.
It is rated for 22LR, 22WMR, and 17HMR, thanks in part to its stronger 7075 aluminum construction. It is not rated for 17WSM or 5.7×28. It also carries a full auto rating, but only with 22LR.
