Trading the factory buckhorn for a receiver peep is one of the best things you can do for a lever action, and the Williams FP-94/36 Foolproof is a classic for good reason. It mounts on the side of the receiver using the two drilled and tapped holes many Winchester and Marlin rifles already have, putting the aperture close to your eye where it belongs. That longer sight radius and simple peep-and-bead picture make target acquisition faster and shots more repeatable than an open notch ever could.
The heart of this sight is the internal micrometer system. Windage and elevation adjust with positive internal locks, so once you dial it in, recoil and rough handling in the truck or the deer stand won't walk your point of impact around. It's built from aluminum alloy with a tensile strength of 85,000 pounds and uses steel mounting screws, so you get a tough sight that still tips the scale at only about 1-1/2 ounces. The blued-black finish looks right at home on a traditional lever gun.

The threaded aperture makes it easy to fine-tune your sight picture. A lot of hunters step up to a Williams twilight disk with its brass ring, which pairs beautifully with a brass front bead and speeds up sight acquisition in low light. A smaller opening helps sharpen the front sight for aging eyes, while a larger disk works well for deliberate target shooting.

Many Winchester and Marlin lever guns left the factory already drilled and tapped on the side of the receiver for a sight like this. If yours has those holes, installation is a straightforward bolt-on job with the included screws. Older rifles that were never drilled and tapped on the left receiver wall will need a gunsmith to do that first.
Usually not. This sight sits fairly low over the receiver, so most shooters can keep their factory front bead and still zero without trouble. If your particular load or eyesight has you running out of elevation adjustment, swapping in a slightly taller front blade solves it, and plenty of folks change to a blade anyway simply because they prefer it over a bead.
