There is a lot to be said for a shotgun that just runs without demanding much in return, and that is the whole idea behind the ATA Arms Four Peaks ASKA S2. This Turkish-built 12 gauge uses an inertia-operated action, the same basic concept that made some of the most respected autoloaders on the market famous. Fewer parts getting dirty means less time scrubbing gas ports and more time shooting. The 28 inch barrel gives you a smooth, deliberate swing that suits sporting clays, dove fields, and waterfowl work, and the 3 inch chamber handles everything from light target loads to heavier hunting shells.
The ASKA S2 receiver is machined from 7075-T6 billet aluminum, which keeps weight manageable while holding up to serious use. The barrel is 4140 steel with chrome plating inside and out to fight off rust and corrosion, and every barrel is proof tested before it leaves the factory. The black synthetic stock shrugs off rain, mud, and bumps in the truck bed, and the oversized rubber butt pad takes a real bite out of felt recoil when you step up to stouter loads.
A fiber optic front sight gathers light and pulls your eye right to the bead, which makes a noticeable difference on overcast mornings or in fading evening light. The 28 inch barrel and smooth-swinging balance make it a natural fit for clays, upland birds, and waterfowl. The ASKA S2 is inertia operated. That means it cycles using recoil energy rather than tapping gas from the barrel, so the action stays cleaner and requires less frequent deep cleaning than a gas gun. The tradeoff is slightly more felt recoil, which the oversized rubber butt pad helps offset.
It has a 3 inch chamber, so it runs both 2 3/4 inch and 3 inch 12 gauge shells. Like most inertia-driven shotguns, it cycles most reliably with loads that carry a bit of authority, typically 1 1/8 oz target loads and up. Very light promotional loads can be hit or miss in any inertia gun until it breaks in.
The receiver is machined from 7075-T6 billet aluminum, one of the stronger aluminum alloys used in firearms. It keeps the overall weight reasonable for long days of carrying while remaining plenty durable. The barrel itself is 4140 steel with chrome plating for corrosion resistance.
