The Fortis Shift Handstop is one of those small parts that changes how a rifle feels the moment you get behind it. Instead of forcing you into a single hold, its organic shape lets you run a thumb-over grip, tuck a pinky into the groove, or drop your ring finger behind it. You dial in the hand position that feels natural, then repeat it round after round. This Flat Dark Earth version pairs a carbon fiber insert with a hard coat anodized 6061-T6 aluminum body, so it looks sharp on a tan or multicam build without adding bulk.
The reversible part is the clever bit. Mount it in one direction and it acts as a stop that keeps your support hand from creeping forward under recoil. Flip it around and install it forward, and you can drive into it to lock your hold in place. That flexibility means the same part works for a wide range of shooting styles and hand sizes, and it lets you experiment until something clicks. Keeping your support hand planted translates directly to faster shot recovery and quicker target transitions during a string of fire.
Weight is where this thing earns its keep. At right around 1.1 ounces it barely registers on the rifle, yet the one-piece billet construction feels solid with zero flex. It attaches through the M-LOK slots with a 5/32 Allen head and only takes up two positions on the rail, so you keep plenty of room for a light, a sling mount, or a bipod. Machined and finished in the USA, it holds up to real range abuse and keeps looking good doing it.
If you are building out a handguard and want a low-profile index point that does not commit you to a bulky vertical grip, the Shift is a smart pickup. It is minimal, it is tough, and it gives your hand a consistent home every time you shoulder the rifle.
The Shift can be installed in either direction on your rail to match how you shoot. Mounted one way it stops your support hand from sliding forward under recoil, and flipped forward it gives you a surface to drive into and lock your hold. That flexibility lets you find a repeatable grip whether you run a thumb-over hold or tuck a finger into the groove.
It mounts to any M-LOK compatible handguard or rail and only occupies two M-LOK slots. That small footprint leaves plenty of room for a light, sling mount, or other accessories. Installation uses a 5/32 Allen head, so it goes on and comes off with a standard hex key.
Very little. The one-piece billet aluminum body with carbon fiber inserts comes in at around 1.1 ounces, so you get a solid index point without weighing down the front of your build. It is a favorite for folks who want control without the bulk of a full vertical grip.
The dimensions and function are the same as the standard aluminum Shift. The carbon fiber version adds textured carbon inserts for a distinct look and finish, and this one comes in Flat Dark Earth to blend with tan and earth-toned builds.
