Fans have been asking FN for a truly compact SCAR for years, and the SCAR 15P is the answer. Modeled after the SCAR-SC personal defense weapon built for military and law enforcement, this version chambers .300 AAC Blackout, a cartridge that was designed from the start to run well out of short barrels. At just 5.65 pounds unloaded and under 20 inches long, it handles more like a large pistol than a rifle, and the included SB Tactical 1913 side-folding brace makes it even easier to stash in a pack, a vehicle, or a compact safe.
FN did not just swap barrels and call it a day. The adjustable low-flash gas regulator has settings for both subsonic and supersonic ammunition, so it cycles heavy 200-plus grain loads and zippy 110 grain rounds without fuss. The 7.5-inch barrel is cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined, and free-floated, capped with a .30 caliber three-prong flash hider on 5/8×24 threads. The short-stroke gas piston system runs cleaner and cooler than direct impingement, and a redesigned bolt carrier keeps felt recoil soft for a pistol-length gun. It feeds from a dedicated 30-round Magpul magazine built specifically around the Blackout cartridge.
The one-piece machined aluminum upper receiver wears MIL-STD-1913 rails at the 3, 6, 9, and 12 o'clock positions, so optics, lights, and lasers all have a home. Controls are fully ambidextrous, including the safety and magazine release, and the non-reciprocating charging handle can be set up on either side, doubling as a hand stop when locked forward. The rear vertical Picatinny rail carries the folding brace and includes a QD sling cup.
This is the black model, and it ships in a zippered soft case that keeps the whole package discreet and travel-ready. If you already own a 5.56 SCAR 15P, FN sells complete barrel assemblies so the two calibers can swap back and forth on one gun. It is a lot of capability in a very small footprint, and it wears the SCAR name honestly earned.
Yes, that is one of the big reasons FN built this variant. The adjustable gas regulator has dedicated settings for subsonic and supersonic ammunition, so it will cycle everything from light 110 grain supersonics up to heavy 200-plus grain subsonic loads. Just set the regulator to match your ammo and it runs.
You can. FN sells complete barrel assemblies in both .300 Blackout and 5.56x45mm that include the bottom rail, gas block, piston, regulator, and muzzle device. That means one gun can cover both calibers with a straightforward barrel swap. Keep in mind the 15P uses its own barrel assemblies and will not accept SCAR 16 barrels.
It ships with a 30-round Magpul magazine purpose-built for the .300 Blackout cartridge, which feeds the stubby round more reliably than repurposed 5.56 mags. The lower is compatible with standard AR-15 pattern magazines, though sticking with dedicated .300 BLK PMAGs is the smart move for consistent feeding.
It is the smallest SCAR ever offered to the public, measuring 19.75 inches overall and weighing 5.65 pounds unloaded. With the included SB Tactical 1913 brace folded, it tucks into backpacks, vehicle storage, and small safes with room to spare. It is genuinely one of the most packable piston guns in its class.
