FN Herstal has been building M16s for the US military for decades, and the FN 15 Military Collector M16 comes off those same production lines with one big difference: the fun switch is semi-auto only. Everything else stays true to the M16A4 that Marines carried for years. That means a 20-inch button-broached, chrome-lined barrel with a 1:7 twist, an A2-style compensator, a fixed A2 buttstock with storage compartment, and the Knight's Armament M5 RAS handguard with rail covers, exactly the furniture you'd find on the issued rifle. Even the lower receiver wears a UID label and an ambidextrous selector, just like its select-fire big brother.
Plenty of companies build 20-inch ARs. Very few can say theirs is made by an actual military contractor to the same specs as the service rifle. The rifle-length gas system running under that long barrel gives you a noticeably softer shooting impulse than a carbine, and the 1:7 twist stabilizes everything from 55 grain plinking ammo to heavy 77 grain match loads. Chrome lining means the bore shrugs off high round counts and neglect alike. Sights are classic A2 front post with an adjustable rear, and the flat-top upper carries a MIL-STD-1913 rail if you'd rather run an optic.
Some collector guns live in the safe. This one doesn't have to. It's about as close as you can get in a semi-auto. FN builds it to the same specs as the M16A4 it produces for the US military, including the 20-inch chrome-lined barrel, A2 stock, Knight's Armament M5 RAS handguard, ambidextrous selector, and even the UID label on the lower. The only meaningful difference is that this one fires semi-auto only.
You've got options. The flat-top upper has a MIL-STD-1913 rail at the 12 o'clock position, and the rear sight is a removable back-up style unit. Pop it off and you can run a carry handle, an ACOG like the Marines did, or any modern red dot or scope you like.
The 1:7 twist is the military-spec rate and it's very versatile. It stabilizes heavier bullets like 62 grain M855 and 77 grain match loads especially well, but it handles standard 55 grain ball just fine for range days. Since it's chambered in 5.56 NATO, it safely runs both 5.56 and .223 Remington.
Yes. The A2-style compensator threads onto a standard 1/2×28 muzzle, so it isn't pinned or welded. With a full 20 inches of barrel, there's no need for a permanent attachment, and you can swap muzzle devices if you want, though most owners keep the A2 for authenticity.
