The Five-seveN has been around for over two decades, and there's a reason it never left FN's lineup. The 5.7x28mm cartridge shoots flat, recoils like a rimfire with attitude, and stacks 20 rounds into a pistol that weighs just 25.2 ounces unloaded. The MRD version takes that proven platform and adds the one thing the original was missing: a slide cut for micro red dots. This one wears a Flat Dark Earth finish on both the frame and the steel slide, and it ships with two 20-round magazines so you're not hunting for spares on day one.
FN's plate system covers most of the popular micro red dot footprints out there, including options from Holosun, Trijicon, Vortex, Leupold, and Burris. Pull the cover plate, match the correct adapter plate and screws to your optic, and you're mounted with the included hardware. The adjustable 3-dot irons sit tall enough to co-witness with most dots, and the photo-luminescent front sight gives you a usable reference when the light gets low. If you'd rather run irons only, the factory sights are fully capable on their own.
This generation got real ergonomic upgrades, not just a fresh coat of paint. The grip picked up new stippling and texture, the slide got deeper front and rear serrations, and even the trigger guard is serrated for a locked-in hold. Controls are sized to work with gloves, the safety is ambidextrous, and the magazine release is reversible for lefties.
