The standard 509C and the 509C MRD share the same barrel length, frame dimensions, and overall platform. The key difference is the MRD variant has a factory optics-cut slide using FN's Low-Profile Optics Mounting System, which allows direct mounting of miniature red dot sights. The standard 509C does not have this optics cut, so it comes with traditional iron sights only. If you are not planning to run a red dot, the standard 509C is the more straightforward option.
