Description
Plenty of entry-level ARs cut corners on the one part that matters most, the barrel. Faxon went the other direction with the Sport HBAR. This rifle is built around Faxon's own Duty Series 16 inch HBAR profile barrel, machined in-house from 4150 CMV steel with a 1:8 twist and black nitride treatment inside and out. The heavy contour adds stiffness and thermal mass, which keeps your point of impact steady when the round count climbs and the barrel heats up. The 1:8 twist stabilizes everything from 55 grain plinking ammo up to 77 grain match loads, and the 1/2×28 threaded muzzle leaves the door open for a brake, comp, or suppressor down the road.
Why the Faxon Sport HBAR Cycles So Smooth
The mid-length gas system is a big part of what makes this rifle pleasant to run. Compared to a carbine-length setup, it softens the recoil impulse and eases wear on the operating parts, something you notice most on long training days. Feeding from the included Magpul Gen M2 10-round magazine, the 5.56 NATO chamber safely handles both 5.56 and .223 Remington, so ammo selection stays wide open.
A Sport Rifle with Duty-Grade Bones
The receivers are forged aluminum, and the lower includes a tensioning screw so you can snug up the fit between halves for a rattle-free feel. Up top, a full-length Picatinny rail gives you room for optics and irons, while the free-float M-LOK handguard keeps pressure off the barrel and accepts lights, slings, and grips wherever you want them. An M4-style polymer stock and standard grip round out a familiar, no-drama control setup with a mil-spec selector.

Faxon Firearms is a family-owned American manufacturer based in Greater Cincinnati, Ohio, with machining roots going back to 1978. This is not a parts-bin rifle wearing someone else's logo. Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Faxon Sport HBAR shoot both 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington?
Yes. The chamber is cut for 5.56 NATO, which means it safely runs both 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington ammunition. The 1:8 twist barrel does a nice job stabilizing common bullet weights from 55 up to 77 grains, so you have plenty of flexibility at the ammo counter.
What does the HBAR barrel profile do for me compared to a lighter barrel?
The heavy barrel contour adds stiffness and thermal mass, which means less barrel whip and less point-of-impact shift when the barrel gets hot during long strings of fire. You trade a little extra weight for noticeably better consistency during extended range sessions. For high-volume training or precision work, it is a worthwhile trade.
Is the Faxon Sport rifle suppressor ready?
The muzzle comes threaded 1/2×28, which is the standard pattern for most 5.56 muzzle devices and suppressor mounts. The heavy barrel contour and mid-length gas system handle suppressed use well, though Faxon suggests an adjustable gas block if you plan to run a can regularly to fine-tune the extra back pressure.
Is this rifle really made by Faxon or just assembled from outsourced parts?
Faxon is a true manufacturer, not a rebrander. The company machines its own barrels and key components in-house at its Greater Cincinnati, Ohio facility, with family manufacturing roots going back to 1978. The rifle is also covered by Faxon's limited lifetime warranty.
