The Faxon Duty Series Gunner takes two proven barrel profiles and blends them into one. From the extension to the gas block it follows the familiar Government taper for heat resistance and rigidity, then switches to a slim pencil contour out front. The result is a barrel that keeps its weight to the rear, brings the balance point back toward your body, and cuts down on fatigue over a long day at the range or in the field.
Stretching the barrel out to 18 inches gives 5.56 a little more room to build velocity, and paired with the rifle-length gas system you get one of the softest, most consistent recoil impulses on the AR-15 platform. The longer dwell time helps with accuracy, which is why this contour has become a go-to for DMR builds, recce rifles, and general-purpose setups that need to stay light without giving up reach. At right around 1.58 pounds stripped, it hangs lighter than plenty of 16-inch barrels out there.
Each barrel is machined in-house in Cincinnati from certified 4150 steel, button rifled, then fully stress relieved, air-gauge tested, and magnetic particle inspected before it ships. The 11-degree target crown protects the rifling at the muzzle for cleaner, more consistent groups. Owners running these on Aero and other standard uppers regularly report groups in the 1 MOA range with match ammo, and some have squeezed out well under an inch with good handloads.
The 1:8 twist is the sweet spot for 5.56 and .223, stabilizing everything from light 55-grain varmint loads up to heavier 77-grain match rounds. It uses a .625" gas block journal, an M4 barrel extension that drops into any standard AR-15 upper, and 1/2-28 muzzle threads ready for your brake, comp, or suppressor mount. The QPQ black nitride treatment on the bore and exterior holds up against corrosion and makes cleaning a lot less of a chore.
